Met up with Cari and Gabe awhile back for a laid-back engagement shoot around Ann Arbor. Really looking forward to their intimate wedding at Cafe Cortina this fall.
Enjoy!

This May has been insanely busy - lots of amazing weddings, a fab bat mitzvah, and a whole bunch of e-shoots! I am terribly behind on my blogging - so thanks for the patience! I know I've got a lot of excited folks out there who have been waiting on this one!
Bret and Elana were married at Adat Shalom this month - it was a picture-perfect day and Tommy and I were so happy to share it with them!
event design/coordination: emerald city
band: Simone Vitale
video: Mike Staff
I'm happy to say that the incredible footwear trend of 2010 continues! These sparkly manolos were AH-MAZING.

Elana's dress was just darling, and totally perfect for her!

beautiful bride!

a cute moment during their Ketuba signing

and the ceremony:

thanks Bret and Elana! Hope this peek was worth the wait ;-)

I've been so excited to shoot this wedding, ever since I first met Kristen and Tony and heard the wonderful story of how they met (he was her tour guide on a vacation in costa rica!). It was just amazing to see their friends and family come together to celebrate their wedding last weekend - it probably sounds cheesy, but the world feels just a little bit smaller after seeing how two people from opposite ends of the world can meet, fall in love, and build a life together ;-)
I must say, so far this season, abby rose photo brides have had *impeccable* taste in footwear. Love these cole haan's!

Kristen had a great team helping her get gorgeous - Amber Kaczmarek on makeup and Kristi from Luigi Bruni on hair.

tommy, meanwhile, was hangin' with Tony at the Ren Cen

cute shot in the limo

and some shots around the riverwalk - I never knew there was a carousel down there! Such a fun spot for photos - who wants to do an eshoot here?!

i love this shot, because they look like such rock stars!!

these little cuties had me cracking up all night with their awesome dance moves!!

the always fabulous Mary Ann Ross kept everyone rockin'...
...except for this one, who finally tuckered out after a wild night of dancing!

CONGRATULATIONS Kristen and Tony! It was truly a joy spending the day with you ;-) Hope you're having an incredible time in Paris!! xoxo

Emerald City did a fab job with all the details, and the Ambassador Ballroom looked just beautiful - my first wedding there and I hope there will be more! Such a great spot.

What a killer wedding to kick off the 2010 season - Ryan and Megan are a lovely couple, and also gorgeous, which certainly doesn't hurt ;-) They were married last week at the Inn at St Johns. Some favorites:
Megan's dress was TO DIE FOR - seriously, so beautiful. Megan, leave the designer's name in the comments - I'm sure girls will be asking!

a little garter action

I really loved how they surrounded their cake with family wedding photos. I like to think that at their childrens' weddings someday, an image of mine will join the group ;-)

Busy season is officially here! Which means, my blog gets neglected bit....
Here's some favorites from a recent shoot with Liz and Gordon - an absolutely adorable couple! Gordon is working in Austin right now, and was only in town for a couple of days. And wouldn't you know it, the day of shoot it was raining. But they were total troopers and we got some wonderful images! They even gave me some time the following day, when the weather was gorgeous - so we wound up with a really lovely collection of rainy and sunny day images.

as I was shooting this next series, I realized my lens was fogged up (rainy weather will do that!). I figured they'd be unusable, but I actually really like them! They almost have a holga feel.

and here's a couple of sunny day shots:

thanks guys!

As soon as I met Lisa and stepped foot inside her delightful studio, I knew I wanted to share her with my blog readers!
Her brainchild, Pot and Box is a full-service container gardening and floral design studio in Ann Arbor (not too far from me, actually!). Her space is SO charming, and full of whimsical little touches. I could hang out there all day. Pot and Box is available for fresh flower delivery, containers, flower landscapes, custom projects (she's helping me green up my studio a bit) - and YES, she does weddings!
In fact, Lisa is one of the only wedding florists I know of who emphasizes sustainability, and works almost exclusively with local flowers - something I think is pretty amazing. She is currently booking weddings for the 2010 season - so give her a buzz if you are looking for a florist!
Some pics:

this next room is actually available for small events! showers, parties, art shows, whatever. It's really a great space - so open and airy. Lisa also holds classes here for those looking to work on their green thumbs

here's a little collage - like I said, this place is just bursting with loveliness!

and here's the lady herself (don't kill me for posting this Lisa - you are adorable!!)

Pot and Box is right downtown Ann Arbor, at 220 Felch, and is open tuesday-friday, 11-6, saturday 12-3, and by appointment. Stop by and check it out for yourself!

Just got in megan and matt's beautiful album and I am in LOOOVVVEEE. Seriously kicking myself for not ordering a copy for a studio sample.
This is finao's new "krumble" material. Loving it! Finao are one of my favorites of the album binders I work with - and they're a Michigan-based business, which is rad.

Oh hey - in other news, my photos were on the TV today! I've been meaning to do a blog post about this cool contest I'm a part of - but in the meantime, check out this video! (for some reason I can't embed it, boo!).

Kristin and Tony have what has got to be the best ever "how'd you meet?" story. They met while Kristin was on vacation in Costa Rica - and Tony was her tour guide! A whirlwind romance ensued, Tony moved to the US, and now they're getting married! Is that not the stuff of romance novels?!
Anyhow - we met up at the Ren Cen Marriott in downtown Detroit last week for our e-shoot. Their wedding will be in the Ambassador Ballroom there and I am so excited - it's an amazing venue right at the feet of the riverwalk.
Here's a few favorites:
The Ren Cen is a really beautiful and interesting building, and there are some cool interior spaces that we took advantage of since it was so chilly (what is up with this crazy weather lately!).

the cold didn't stop us from a quick trip outdoors

So, Kristin is living in Boston right now, but she's a Detroit gal at heart - which is why I know she's going to LOVE this next one. (well, I also know she's going to love it because I showed it to her on the back of my camera, and she was stoked. but anyways!):

Thanks Kristin and Tony for a great shoot! Looking forward to your wedding next month!

I'm am SO happy that wedding season is (almost!) here. Paul and Vicky were my first e-shoot in what feels like forever, and I was just so pleased to be shaking off the winter and shooting. And what a lovely couple to begin the season with. Not only are they gorgeous and totally photogenic - but they are so sweet and in-love. Shooting them was a breeze.
Both are U of M alums, so we took a little walking tour of some of their favorite spots on campus

my take:

thanks guys! I am so happy with this set of images - and there are many more to come. Hope you love them! To all my other clients - 'tis the season for e-shoots! My schedule is filling up fast, so call me soon if you're ready to set something up!

I am beyond excited to be hosting this upcoming workshop with JVS and Annie. These two know their speedlights inside and out, and are masters of using small flash units to add depth and drama to images.
Here's a few photos I snagged from their off-camera-flash blog (which is chock full of great information):

The workshop is scheduled for April 19th, and will be a full, 12-hour day of learning and shooting (and eating!). All participants will get a 30-page lighting pdf that contains detailed diagrams and gear lists. Class size is capped at 15, which means it will be a nice, intimate group. I think we're about halfway full right now - so grab your seat soon! This is currently their only midwest stop.
